Justice (R) Syed Hamid Ali Shah

Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah, Advocate of Supreme Court since 19/03/1994, is the founding father of Hyat & Meerjees where he recommenced in the legal profession as a Senior Partner in 2011. He regularly appears in all High Courts and the Supreme Court and has had a large volume of reported cases. 

He was elevated to the Bench on the 01/11/2004, and has been credited for delivering count-less landmark judgements on various legal issues of public importance, in the field of civil, corporate, family, constitutional law, etc. Due to his ground-breaking judgement on environmen-tal law, Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah was crowned as “Asian Air Quality Manage-ment Champion” in 2006 in Indonesia. 

Such profound is Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah’s command on arbitration matters that his expert opinions have been sought by the Commercial Court, Queen’s Bench Division, The High Court of Justice, London, England. During his tenure as a High Court Judge Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah was a member of the High Court Rules & Orders Commit-tee and helped establish the Punjab Judicial Academy, for the training of judges of the subordi-nate judiciary, and was appointed in its the board of Governors from 2008-2009. 

Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah’s involvement in the drafting of the enactment “Punjab Judicial Academy (Act XV of 2007) and framing of Rules thereunder was instrumental. During his term as a High Court Judge he headed various committees of the Lahore High Court on various subjects. 

Prior to his elevation to the Bench, Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah served a Member of the Executive Committee of Lahore High Court Bar Association between the 1999-2004. Additionally, he served as the Chairman of the International Affairs Committee (2001-2002), the Law Reform Committee (2002-2003) and the Human Rights Committee (2003-2004). Не remained in the Board of Governors of Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) from 2009-2010. 

Moreover, Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah has delivered lectures on Islamic Banking both within Pakistan and overseas. 

Presently Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah is engaged in preparing the legislation for the protection of the rights of the Disabled People and redrafting the company law legislation. Since returning to full time practice Mr. Justice (Retd) Syed Hamid Ali Shah has undertaken a large number of high profile cases and is described as a “beacon of authority” when it comes to the matters relating Civil Law, Arbitration Law and Taxation Law. His services, both in the capacity of being a Counsel and the Honourable member of the Bench remain extraordinary.
